  1. Congrats on trying to do the right thing for this cat and her kittens! So many people don't even bother.

Keep putting food out for her, if she finds a regular source of food she will keep coming back for the food. Keep an eye out for her, look in dark quiet places. If she knew your house as a safe place, she will come back there or possibly move the kittens there when they are born. Mother cats often move their nests around for safety.

Keep an eye out for the foxes, a fox can easily kill a cat and raid a nest of kittens. It's not nice to think about, but it does happen.

When Mom comes back, catch her and spay her at once! If you find the kittens first, that's fine. Put them in a warm box and bring them with her. She will continue to produce milk for them and care for them even after being spayed. I've done this several times for feral cats. If you don't find the kittens first, have her spayed anyway! Kittens will do fine for 24 hours without Mom. This could also give you an opportunity to find them! A few hours without food and Mom's warmth, they might start to mew and you can find them that way. I've had to do this as well.

At any rate, the biggest key is finding Mom and having her spayed as soon as possible so there aren't anymore litters of kittens. When the kittens are old enough, you can spay and neuter them as well, then find good adoptive homes for them.

Best of luck finding her. Try putting out some really good smelly food ... sardines, tuna, even meat baby food works good. The cat rule of thumb: if it smells horrible, they think it's just divine!

  2. If it's a stray then you have to be careful because especially since she is pregnant, she will be very defensive and protective, and shy of humans. If you have a garden shed, this is perfect for the job. Clear a little space and put a cardboard box with part of one side cut out in a space on the floor. Then put in something to keep her warm, maybe start with some newspaper then maybe a tea towel and if you feel extravagent, sheepskin is fantastic. Leave some food next to the box that she will be able to smell, and some water/ milk. Cooked chicken is fantastic for this. Leave the shed door slightly open, wide enough for her to get in. Hopefully she will come back! When the kittens are born don't try to touch them, as the mother may get frightened and leave them to die. I know, doesn't exactly make sense, but who really understands the mind of a cat.

    Hope this works!

  3. The mum may have hidden somewhere to give birth, cats are quite sensible to find safe hide aways away from wild animals, so hopefully the foxes wont be able to get to the kittens plus the mum will be very protective of them when approached by predators.

Look all around near where you live, if she has given birth she may eventually return home to you with her little bundle safely so dont give up hope, cats have sense when looking after their offspring.

  4. The fox could eat the kittens.

But I doubt mama cat will allow them to get that close. I've seen cats go after dogs before. They're not stupid and mom's are very protective. They go right for the predators face. ;)

Just sit outside with some food and call her, she'll eventually get hungry and come back.

  5. if where ever she took them becomes unsafe she will bring them all back to you. It may take a while. If your the only one feeding her she'll be back alone real soon, she's going to be real hungry soon enough. Maybe next time she returns you should follow her back. **** luck I hope you find them...

  6. wow.... that cat is an explorer i tell you.... seriously, maybe she gave birth to the kittens that's why she ran off.... she'll come back when she needs food but when she doesn't return, maybe she moved on....

    hope that helps....
