  2. You would choose 'A'.  That is the only group that is certain that the students would perform musically.

    ADDED: This is a hard question, no wonder you are stuck on it!!!  You really should look in your text book for how it defines a random sample.  There are differences too between "simple random samples" and plain "random sampling" in statistics.  If I am not understanding the question correctly, the answer could also easily be 'C' for students in every odd-numbered homeroom because it is not defining any special interest that the student has such as sports and music and is therefore random.  The question states 'student' not 'music student'.

  3. A would produce a random sample - because all the other choices don't have music students involved. If the music teacher is critiquing the music performance of students, then only students who play an instrument could be in the random sample.
