Ramon has a summer job as a bike messenger, delivering packages to businesses and offices downtown.Ramon feels totally cool getting his instructions from the dispatcher over a two way radio. This morning his first stop was an insurance office where he picked packages. His instructions were to drop of 1/2 of those packages at a second building and pick up two more packages. His third stop was a medical building, he dropped off 1/2 of his packages and pick up seven. At his forth stop,city-hall, he dropped of 1/4 of his packages and pick up one. The fifth delivery was to a law office where he left 1/2 of his packages and pick up one.On his sixth stop, ramon left 6 packages, all that he had left. Then he took lunch break. How many packages did ramon deliver before lunch?

Sorry miss spelled words, please help.

  1. Just work backwards.

    6 packages left before lunch.

5 packages before he picked up that 1 package when leaving the law office.

He had 10 packages when he got to the law office.

He had 9 packages before he picked up that 1 package when leaving city hall.

Since 9 = 3 + 3 +3, it makes sense that leaving 1/4 of 12 packages (3) would result in 9.  He had 12 packages when he got to city hall.

Before he picked up those 7 when leaving the medical building, he had 5.

Because he dropped on 1/2 of he packages at the medical building (leaving him 5) he had 10 when he got there.

Before picking up those 2 packages at the second building, he had 8.  Since that is the 1/2 he was left with when he dropped off the packages at the second building, he had 16 when he got there.

There were 16 packages at the insurance office, assuming Ramon did not have any packages with him when he got there.
