True.  Most soldiers died from disease caused by poor medical practices and the ignorance of battlefield doctors.  Amputation was a very common procedure and sterilization was non-existent.

True...for the most part. It would be more accurate to say that more soldiers died as a result of infections contracted through wounds, as opposed to the wounds themselves.
