First deal with addition/subtraction

Subtract 2 from both sides

1/4 |X-3| &lt; -1

Then deal with multiplication/division

Multiply both sides by 4

|X-3| &lt; -4

You can stop here because the absolute value of anything can only be 0 or positive and therefore could never equal -4, no solution
