okay so if you have seen Mama Mia the movie you know near the end where they are sitting at the reception deal there are fruit jars in the trees with tea lights in them and there are blue lights twinkling...well i would like to somewhat recreate that scene for my wedding reception but on a much lower scale, i am having my reception in the evening and people will pull up around the back of the house and i would like it to look really enchanting when they pull to the back to come inside...the reception is inside, i just want the back yard to look really magical if my then husband and i or others want to go outside and talk or whatever....I want to put blue lights in the trees just something like christmas lights and then hang the mason jars all in the trees and put battery operated tea lights in the mason jars. I hope that you like the idea....are there any other suggestions you could give me to make the back yard really enchanting looking? We have some good space to works with so i am up for a lot of ideas but try to keep in mind that we are trying to not go too extravagant.....so think low cost!! :) Thank you everyone, i really appreciate it!

  1. They sell lantern fairy lights, which you could use in place of the tea lights. They would be a lot cheaper and less worry about fire hazards or the candles blowing out. Or you could use different shaped/coloured fairy lights. Then use the candles/tea lights on surfaces like tables or along the ground, lighting the path that the guests walk.

  2. Congrats on the wedding!

Your idea certainly sounds magical, I love it to bits.

    Tea lights - http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tea-Light-...

    Here are some more ideas:

Maybe a white carpet or something, going into the reception with tea light's along it would be lovely. Something like this: http://www.eventsbynadia.com.au/img/Foto... with tea lights on each side? You could maybe get tea-lights in the wedding colours?

If your really gaudy, you could put rainbow sprinkles along the path or anything like that.

Like someone else said you could also do more mason jars with some tea lights in them with sprinkles in the jar too, maybe scented candels as well would create a beautful aroma.  Somebody else suggested lantens and they could look great hanging above if you had somewhere to hang them. They look awkward on the ground. If you had two poles or anything a fair distance apart you could hang fairy lights from above too. You could also do vases of those basically twig things and then hag lanterns off them: http://www.japaneseweddingfavors.com/ima...

Obviously, I wouldn't suggest you do all of the following, it would be fairly $$$ and OTT to do all of it, but if you choose a few it will be AMAZING.♥

EDIT: I just had an idea of configuring fairy lights somewhere maybe in the air, above hanging from the poles a fair distance apart spelling out your names or something :) That would be amazing if applicable.

Hope this helps & Good luck!

  3. I have a thought!  You don't want it to look all gaudy, as if you planned for it to look enchanted.  Just something subtle?  Along with your idea, I would get spray glitter.  It comes in a spray can and you can find it at any hobby store.  I would spray it around. Not too much, where all the guests leave with glitter on them.  But, just enough that it gets the sparkle effect.  Spray it around the tea lights, on the leaves, anywhere guests won't be able to touch.  People will see it and think its pretty, but not realize it's glitter.  Good luck to you in your marriage!

  4. you could also put some jars on the ground with the battery operated tea lights inside. even getting out the old christmas lights and arranging them in the trees instead of hanging jars might be just as easy. you might also contemplate putting up a few stings of lights across the patio section to add more light.

    congrats and good luck :)

  5. You need to ask the owners of the B&B as to what you can do to the outside.  I would just use white Christmas lights all over, in the trees, bushes, along the pathways.  You can always use the Christmas lights later on for the holidays for years.
