Question:

Please help identify what tree this seed is from and the method used to plant it.?

I found some that were about one inch in diameter and hard. Some others were soft and cotton-like with a seed (I think it's the seed) in the center.

  1. I agree it is probably a Platanus species - one of the sycamores, also known as Plane trees. The fruit in your hand actually contains many seeds. I don't have the answer of how to plant it, but you may want to break it apart and try a few different methods. The Platanus generally are fast-growing trees, and make for beautiful, very large, shade trees. If you do try planting it, make sure you give it a very large home!

    A couple of other trees with rounded fruits come to mind but the plane trees seem to be the closest, based on the single photo available.
