Dear, My problem is pathetic, I knew all basic commands, last one year I had no practice, my problem is like after opening the cad, if I draw a line giving command in keyboard, after drawing the line I don't see the same line I wanted to draw. So as I want to start again practicing auto CAD, it is violating I am getting discouraged.

  1. where it says: command (white line in the bottom), right click . then, units. then, (u choose!)

  2. Don't be put off learning AutoCAD!

What happens always has a reason as the program is very logical.

The problem may only be that the line you have drawn is not within your view.

Use the command Zoom > Extents to get everything into view.

    (keyboard Z Return E Return)

This happens because the initial view of a new blank drawing is immense compared to the typical drawing area required when drawing a building or object.

To check this draw a rectangle from one corner to the other of the initial view and measure it. It could be around 600x400 units or more!.

So your line is hardly visible as it is positioned at the bottom left of the screen an probably only a couple of units long

Remember don't get confused over units in AutoCAD. Units REPRESENT are whatever you decide they represent.

    All the best,

    Mike

PS. In more recent versions of AutoCAD there is a Insertion Units setting in the Format > Units dialog box but this is little more a note of that decision you have made. Changing this value does NOT effect what you have drawn directly but rather it assists AutoCAD to automatically adjust inserted objects or the new Annotation Scaling properties.

  3. I would suggest you start a new drawing from the file menu (yes they trashed the menu in 2009).

I don't know why you are having an issue with the line. type in the two co-ordinates (X,Y "Enter" X,Y) or the many combinations of mouse command and keyboard to get the line co-ordinates you want. length angle etc.

The key to Acad (besides good instruction) is to watch the command line and see what is asking for. The answer may be typed or a mouse click. The curser also gives prompts.
