  1. Before you start picking motherboards you need to decide what size you want your computer to be.

Small? (Mini and Micro cases) Look only at microATX or similar.

Medium? (Standard Mid tower) Use microATX or ATX.

    Large? (Full size tower) ATX

The microATX and ATX relates to the general size category of the motherboard. An ATX motherboard is the largest type and will have the greatest number of slots.

If you plan on buying a case, do this BEFORE you buy the motherboard, or at least spec it to make sure the preferred motherboard will fit.

Motherboard brands: Gigabyte, MSI, and Asus are all excellent. The one I bought recently is a microATX Gigabyte AM2/AM2+ that accepts AMD's dual, triple, and quad core processors.

If you go the AMD route your motherboard must have the AM2/AM2+ or AM2+ socket for quad core.

If you go to: http://www.newegg.com you'll find lots of information about motherboards, cases, etc. They also have user posted reviews of the different products.

  2. Go to this link and look around. They have bundle deals-cheaper than separate.I recommend Asus, but each his own.
