Question:

Please help in what acoustic guitar to buy?

My 12 year old, 5'6 son is going to take guitar lessons. I need a cheaper acoustic guitar to start. If he stays with it of course I will hook him up with what he wants.

I saw a deal for a 38 in. guitar for 40.00. Is that a full size? He is a pretty big boy.

Also, is there anything I need to beware of even though the guitar appears to be new? Thanks so much in advance!!

  1. It all depends on how many frets it has. If it has at 20 frets( the bars on the guitar) then it should be fine.

  2. Hi Bella

If the boy is 5'6, get him a full size. They cost roughly $100 . At least, he will learn correctly with the right hand position.

If the guitar is too small, he will outgrow it and will have to re-adjust his playing which can discourage him. Takaminie make a beautiful guitar for $100-125 and will last him a couple of years.

Plus, it has a good re-sale value so you won't lose too much if you decide to sell it to upgrade.
