Please help...ive just looked at my 10 day old baby finch chicks and they have huge swollen necks / crop?

these baby chicks look like they have fluid filled swellings but im not sure if its their crop - we dont hav an avian vet nearby aand im desperate to know what to do .... it looks like they going to burst if any pressure put on the and they look yellow...all 4 of them have the same thing but were not there a couple of days ago...hope someone can help....its not there first baby as they successfully raised one a few months ago

  1. I suggest antibiotic's to take the swelling down and fight off any infection that is in their system.


  2. their gullets swell up when they are fed. This is very normal. It will go down as they digest their food.

    I had feed babies and I watch their gullet go down to determine how long it takes to digest.

    If they have an impacted gullet it will not go down. If they are hand fed and the formula was too hot they could have a burnt crop. There is not cure for the later and it is fatal.

    Watch them over the next few hours and the crop should go down.

    If it is not from feeding then you have an issue where you need to see a vet.
