Okay so about 2 years ago me and a firiendwere playing a video game and she said to me "Its like your looking at me in the corner of your eye" and i was like "im not". So ever since then because of that comment I have been able to concentrate on things in the corner of my eye, like now I can write this can still see the lampshade! I feel like killing myself sometimes because basically my central vision must be deteriorating.

I also find that others have experienced this from this website: http://www.stuckinadoorway.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1343

and some people say it could be autism: http://blog.donnawilliams.net/2007/03/05/peripheral-vision-in-some-people-on-the-autism-spectrum/

I'm 16 and I don't want to go to the doctors about it because its embarassing and then my parents would know about it and also they would feel I am looking at them in the corner of my eye.

GOD! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME, IF MY FRIEND DIDN'T SAY THAT THIS WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, AND ALSO I HAVE NO AUTISM OR WHATEVER, EVEN THOUGH I DO SINCERELY FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE WHO DO. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE IS SO THANKS!

  1. If you are truly that embarrassed and scared I would suggest going to the doctors. Your eyesight is much more valuable than a little embarrassment. Though I sincerely doubt your parents would make you feel bad about it. It's possible it is nothing.

You never specified whether your central vision was actually getting worse or if that's just a fear. You might be talking about peripheral vision, the ability to see things that are not directly in your view but off to the side. Some people have much more developed peripheral vision than others.

I can bet you don't have autism. If you are 16 and have no autistic tendencies that have not yet been caught it is highly unlikely that you have any problem of the sort.

If you do feel like killing yourself over your eyesight I suggest looking into a therapist as well as an optometrist visit. Wanting to kill yourself over a simple matter such as seeing things in the corner of your eye sounds much more serious than the actual eye problem itself. Put embarrassment aside and do the best thing for your self and your health.

    Good luck!

  2. First before starting, you are NORMAL. Anyone who directs their attention at one thing or monitor, or TV or ?, can see LOTS of things with their peripheral vision, actually everything that's visible to the eye or eyes. Then there's the 'feeling' you get that someone is watching you as you walk by, and you're watching them out of the corner of your eye as they're watching you directly. So it's a normal way to be. A normal 'feeling'.

Why did Autism get into this?  Where'd that come from? Has nothing to do with your vision. I'd suggest you just put that down and don't find some other diagnosis you'd like NOT to have and hold onto that till they find you don't have a brain tumor.

So your side vision is normal, you're just a little more aware of it.
