I need more info how to do a baby thesis.

You need a topic with a problem that has solution(s).  to expand on one of the other answers mining is a great topic.  Say you want gold.  Does the extraction outweigh the profit?

Mines open and close with the fluctuating commodity prices.  Check out the book, "Modern Prospecting" at Border's.  If you want to colorize or humanize the rocks, do check out John McPhee's masterwork "Annals of the Former World".

How about irradiation of food?  It will certainly be a popular topic.  

A more traditional topic is volcanic activity.  Pick one volcano if you go this route or you'll have too much info.

Or how about the Gold Rush of California?  Or blood diamonds from the Congo?  Or mining in Pennsylvania?  Why are the mines found in these areas?  What led to the deposits of these materials?

Or what about oil drilling?  How much oil do we have left - is that any relation to the price of gasoline?  I happen to think that oil/gas is being saved for the military, and that's why we're paying so much for it now.  Am I correct or not?  Why?

I'm not sure what a baby thesis is, but probably your teacher will tell you about the requirements (10 pages, typed, single space? includes at least one chart?).  

The next step is to gather all the trustworthy material you can find on your subject (print or photocopy them), and start highlighting main ideas in them.  

Then organize the main ideas into an outline and then start writing in your own words what you think based on what you've read.  

Ask the teacher if there's a bibliography style he or she wants, and quote your sources.  

Most of all, do something on a subject that interests you or your parents or other people around you.  That's why current events are such good research areas.  People will talk with you and you'll learn more about the subject.  If you pick a subject that bores you or the people around you, then you miss out on the discussion, and it becomes less fun.
