Please help me......My desert tortoise?

Question

My tortoise can't open his eyes or mouth. I don't know what to do. He is almost 1 year. If you have any ideas please let me know ASAP. And yes i got him legally.

I would try soaking it in slightly warm water.

These types of symptoms often suggest respiratory problems and/or vitamin a deficiency. You may need a qualified reptile vet for this one.

Sounds like the herpes question I just answered a few minutes ago about the Wood turtles.

The white stuff is inspissated (thickened) pus and this is usually followed by a lack of appetite because the mouth is so painful. Antibiotics are necessary at this point for recovery.

Although, with it being a tortoise it could also be mycoplasma and this is no good and the test for it is very expensive and there are only two labs in the US that test for it by PCR.

If it is herpes and you can get your tortoise on the road to recovery along with your much needed veterinary help then it can usually be managed.

Sounds like to need to take your tortoise to the vet. Do you have a reptile vet nearby?  I wouldn't waste any time hesitating....

take him to a reptile vet ASAP the mouth should be a nice pink color and open easily as it is full of white stuff it could be a bacterial infection or as his eyes are closed it could be the start of a respiratory infection this can be fatal to tortoises if not treated and can effect the eyes and mouth not just breathing, your tortoise is a sick little tortoise and needs treatment, with antibiotics and eye cream he should recover, hope your tortoise gets better soon best of luck honey
