  1. Chewing on cuttlebone isn't the only way your bird can help keep its beak trimmed.  Parakeets aren't that prone to chewing on wood like other larger parrots.  You could get some kind of pedicure perch (NOT sandpaper covers).  A bird's natural inclination is to wipe its beak after eating and if they wipe it on the pedicure perch, it will help trim the beak.

However, overgrown beak can be the sign of a serious health problem.  Please take your bird to a vet to have the beak trimmed properly.  If not done properly, you could cause misalignment or injury which could cause your bird to not eat.

  2. well my parakeet had a very long beak and he also didnt chew the cuttle bone, but then he started biting my thumb, not too hard, but it hurt a little bit. in the night he chwed my thumb for half of an hour and in the third day his beak was gone. i did take him to my local veterinarian but there was no equipment to trim his beak. i recomend you to take him out of the cage for a few minutes an let him bite small object s. he will get skkinny if  his beak gets really long.

  3. what you should do is go to a pet parrot store and get it filed down or use a nail file but be careful what type that would help alot

    seth.
