I told him that it helps stop animals from abuse and he uses the bible as he's excuse for hunting.

also, he is upset that I contribute to the animal charities more than the human ones.

He fills the priorities are messed up.

This is the guy I am dating..but should say was dating.

He can't comprehend though I tell him animals have feelings and to watch a video on animals being tortured for food.. KFC for example.

He says it's a way of life.

and He can't stand my beliefs and calls them 'unresearched"

please help me, I want to help him try to understand]

and i know NOT all who are vegetarians do it for the animals

he just seems sstubbornrn and into his beliefs.

I told him I can see his side, but there's also my side and he has to respect that.

I told him volunteer @ animal shelters and I did join PETa and help sign for pettions that escalate further to help stop violence against animals, he thinks i just picket and do nothing.

I told him other wise.

He just doesn't seem to understand...but I'd like him to..

he says he does yet gets upset..

this is causing a lot of trouble between us

  1. People sometimes wonder "what's wrong with eating eggs and milk? They're animal products, not parts, right?" This is understandable and something I might have wondered also a couple of years ago. Most of us don't know much about factory farming or how our food is treated before reaching our plates. A recent episode of 30 Days might start to answer some of these questions. An avid hunter spent 30 days living with an animal rights activist and working on an animal santuary. The show's participants were treated respectfully and it brings up plenty to think about and to research further should you so choose. The episode spotlights some important animal rights issues and seeing the footage is very powerful. Thanks to Vegan Dad for the link to the online video.

  2. If you're asking for help convincing him, then you obviously don't respect his side and it's unreasonable for you to expect him to respect yours. You don't have to understand or agree with him, but you should let go of trying to change him.

Rather than trying to fight with him about this, try saying, "I know you don't agree with me on my position regarding vegetarianism/animal rights, but it's something that is really important to me and I'd like to you accept it. I'm working to accept and respect your relationship with animals too, even though I don't agree with it."

Then follow through. It sounds like neither one of you is very convinced that your beliefs are correct, or you wouldn't be working so hard to try and justify them to one another.

  3. "please help me, I want to help him try to understand]"

Those are his beliefs just as your vegetarianism is your belief.  He will have to make the choice on his own.  You can't make him believe your beliefs until he is ready.  And it isn't fair to believe that your belief is any better than his.  If he wants to be a carnivore, let him.  You made your choice, let him make his.  Now, his attitude about the animals being abused is a bit disheartening.

BTW, I've been a vegetarian for 15 years, but I never try to force my stance and beliefs on anyone, just as I wouldn't want non-vegetarians to be so stubborn about trying to convince me that the way they eat is the way I should be eating.

You both need to accept each other for who you are, not try and change each other.  If him being a non-veg is an unacceptable trait for  you in the person you're dating, then start dating someone who is a vegetarian and shares the same beliefs on this subject.

  5. Actually, if you want to make an issue of animal abuse, a hunter is the last person you should be targeting. Animals that are allowed to live as they naturally would are generally healthy and happy. They live the way they are supposed to until they are killed (no abuse included). Hunters actually regulate healthy populations; human kind has crept onto animal habitat and made living conditions for feral animals less than ideal. Thank a hunter for his contribution to animal welfare and keep your arguments for factory farmers (those who abuse the system)
