is equivalent to

-30x+50y = -240

30x+18y = 36

so

add them

and

68y = -204

so

divide both sides by 68

y = -3

so

if y is -3

-30x+50y = -240

is the same as

-30x + (50 x -3) = -240

which is

-30x + -150 = -240

so

-30x = 390

so -x = 13

so x = -13

therefore

the answer is

y = -3

x = -13

3(-3x+5y=-24)

= -9x+15y=-72

5(5x+3y=6)

=25x+15y=30

two equations are: -9x+15y=-72

                            25x+15y=30

use elimination ( first equation subtract the second one)

you get: -34x=-102

                 x=3

replace x=3 into 5x+3y=6

5(3)+3y=6

15+3y=6

3y=6-15

3y=-9

y=-3

Therefore x=3, y=-3

Multiply first one with 5 (all through out)

5*-3x + 5*5y = 5 * -24

Equation A is -15x + 25y = -120

Multiply second one with 3

3 * 5x + 3 * 3y = 3 * 6

(-15x + 25y) + (15x + 9y) = -120 + 18

First find a common factor for the x coefficients.  We will use 15.  Multiply the top equation by 5 and the lower one by 3.  We do this to eliminate a variable so we only have to solve for one.

-3x+5y= -24

5x + 3y = 6

5(-3x+5y) = 5(-24)

3(5x+3y) = 3(6)

-15x + 25y = -120

15x + 9y = 18

Now add the two equations together

-15x +15x +25y + 9y = -120 + 18

34y = -102

y = -3

Now that we know y we just plug into either of the original equations.  I will use the first one.

-3x + 5y = -24

-3x + (5*-3) = -24

-3x - 15 = -24

-3x = -9

x = 3
