Please help me convince my parents to let me cut my hair?

I'm a high school junior; the straightedge, AP-class-type girl who you'd expect is pretty sensible in her decisions. And yet, I can't cut my hair the way I want, because my parents disagree with it.

I love fashion and design, so aesthetics are very important to me, my hair especially! I'm dying to cut and style my hair like this: http://i36.tinypic.com/15rz5z8.jpg but my parents flat-out refuse, simply because they don't like layers and think "it makes you look like you're sick." I told them if thin hair made you look sick, it wouldn't be so popular, but they still aren't buying it.

I gave them what they want, the 4.2 GPA and SAT class and all that. But those are more of an expectation rather than something they'd reward me for, so I can't say "I did this, can't I cut my hair?" So I'm stuck. PLEAAASE come up with reasons for me to cut my hair the way I want.

I'm so fed up that I'm tempted to drive out to a hair salon and get it cut without them knowing. Advice, please?

  1. you have tons of reasonable reasons for you to cut the hair the way you want!

    -its your hair

    -you deserve it

-it'll make you happier and confident

    ...

    go bold...!

and the hair cut you want is awesome!!!

    isnt that enough!?

    but...

if you dont want them to be hurt

    tell them that youre hurt...

that they dont think you have the choice to cut your hair the way you want.

tell them that its your hair... not theirs.. that you should decide for your appreance and your life.

tell them to respect your decisions...

    :)good luck!

  2. Yeah, I know how parents can be so unfair. I big argument with mine today, too. Anyway, I, personally, don't like the look and haven't seen any1 that has that hairstyle. Let them know that if it is really that bad, hair will grow back! And you can just get it cut into a short bob, which is also totally in style.

  3. I wouldn't really recommend you doing this and showing up at your house (even though I did this a few times), Just tell them before you do it and that's it, don't ask anymore, simply tell them.

  4. it is your life. my parents support me with whatever i may do and this is me. www.myspace.com/kateisalwaysbored   my hair is very short but i am straight and get straight As as well. you're parents need to understand that however much they may try to control you eventually you are going to move away and do those things anyways. so tell them this and say you are an individual and may do as you please. if you make a mistake you arent going to blame them and you've made up your mind and know what you want. and whatever they say dont listen because you are who you are and they need to understand that.

  5. You are a junior in high school probably preparing for college from the looks of your GPA. When you go away to college, they can't make these little decisions for you. As an upper classmen, they need to back off and let you breathe. If they don't now, they never will. Plus learning to make your own choices helps you to become a more confident adult. If they make every choice for you or down every choice you make, you will not feel very secure about your decision making as an adult. I mean it's not like you're going out to get a tattoo, and hair will always grow back. It's not a permanent thing. I say go for it. What are they going to do?

  6. why cant you just go to the hairdresser at the mall and have it cut when you are with some friends? what are they going to do?

force it to grow back? hahahaha

screaming is what they will do - and they can do it all they like.

    go for it girl!

  7. hair is a really small form of expression and independency... explain that to them. they shouldn't freak out over something that will grow back eventually, anyway! try listing out why you deserve it, too.

    good luck :)

  8. well its your hair you should choose for yourself what you want done with it. they cant choose what you should do with it. its really not their problem and they should know that. they just want you to look neat. even tho i think that hairstyle is really cute.

  9. I loveee that hair style. Very cute.
