So I have three sections in my yard that I want to lay those 16 by16 inch flat stones down. Its been a LONG time since i have done math, so I am requesting some help with the math part to make sure i have it right... ...

One part of the yard is 11 by 13 feet. How many 16 by 16 inch stones will i need for that part?

The other part is 4 by 6 feet and the third is 10 by 6 feet. How many stones will i need for each section??

i would like to have it done sectionally, because i am not sure which i want to do first and im a chick- and i change my mind a lot.

first right answer 10 points and my extreme gratitude from saving me from a headache!!

  1. I think it would serve you better to learn how to do this yourself- math, that is.

    It's simple really, my dear.

    11' x 13'= 143 sq ft.

    16" (1.33') x 16" (1.33 ft.)= 1.77 sq. ft.

    143/1.77= 80 blocks

do this same formula for all your areas and add them all up-  always a good idea to get about an additional 10%. You can always return what you don't use.

  2. You will need 121 of the stones to cover this area

  3. My numbers are a little different

    11 x 13 = 75 stones

    4 x 6 = 13 stones

    10 x 6 = 34 stones

    Total stones = 122 stones

Since we are coming up with different numbers I suggest you talk to the sales person at the store.  They are used to doing this all the time.

  4. first part-  143 square feet each stone is 16 by 16 for this part you will need 92 stones

for the 2nd part which is 24 square feet you will need 16 stones

for the third part which is 60 square feet you will need 39 stones

for each section I divided the total square feet by the amount each stone would cover.  I rounded each answer up to the next stone because when you go to buy the stone you will be buying whole stones.
