Mike lists a lot of airlines flying to Heathrow.  I'm pretty sure most of these flights will fly Mumbai - Heathrow, or maybe Delhi or Bangalore (BA).  In other words, you're unlikely to get a direct flight.

The only direct flights would be charters, and they won't start until the monsoon finishes.

And to Gatwick:
