  1. I found them mis-spelled in the 1920 census in Aurora, Erie, NY.

    (Name, age, birthplace)

    Lyman Shandler, 51, head, NY

    Florence Shandler 40, wife, Penn

    Lyman Shandler, 12, NY

They are the same, just 10 years older, in 1930, living in Niagara Falls, Niagara, New York. They got recorded as "Chandler" in 1930.

  2. google it x

  3. Many ways to search.  A cheap paperback dealing with how to search would be a good investment.  The local newspaper in East Aurora should have an archives and the obits on file may provide you with a long list of relatives. ( Survivors of the deceased ).

  4. In 1920, the family lives in Erie co.. Father is Lyman Sr and mom is Florence.  Dad is 50, mom is 40, and no other children show up in the home at the time.  So far, I am not locating them in 1910, but the 1920 is indexed as Shandler.

Dad gives his place of birth as NY.  I don't see him offhand in 1880 with his parents.. but I'll wager he is desc from the Lyman Chandler who lives in Erie co in 1880..but is born 1799 in New York.. HIS parents born in New Jersey and Conn.

You don't have your email enabled.  You can send me a note through my profile, and include your direct email.  I'll be happy to send the census images, but attachments cannot go through the yahoo filter.

  5. There are several genealogy sites on the internet where you can do free searching.  Rootsweb.com; genealogy.com; family history.org  Genweb are a few.  Go to your library.  Sometimes they have a section for genealogy.  You can search census records for NY starting about 1910 to look for you ancestor.  There are really a lot of resources out there.  If you plan on doing a lot of this, then I'd suggest you get yourself a genealogy program and starting with yourself, work backwards.  Also talk with your parents/grandparent/aunt/uncles and even cousins about what they know.  Good luck,
