Please help me find this person?

Question

My great-grandmother was adopted by her step-father (who I believe was from Ireland) and her last name was changed. I don't have anyone to ask who would know. My great-aunt said her last name might have been something like Giles and another one said Starkovich so that's not much help. They said that her real father committed suicide and he wasn't American and he didn't speak English. Her name was Clara Genervie Nichols (Nichols is the adopted name and it may have another spelling). She married Herschel/Herschal V Summerlin. Clara was born 1890s in Jacksonville, Florida and died December 1980. Herschel was born in the 1890s in Georgia and died 1968 in Savannah, Georgia of a heart attack. Please help. I'm completely stuck. She was adopted as an infant and I couldn't find anything on her. Please help. Thanks.
