  1. I think your dad doesn't want you to have one - sorry!  And here's why:

Kittens are hard work - trust me, I have two 11 week old kittens called Harry and Grace.  They bite, scratch, climb things, knock things over, want to play with you while you're sleeping, run all around the house and demand a lot of your time.

When you first get a kitten, it's very rare that a kitten will like you straight away.  You have to be patient and let it come to you - you can't go and pick it up when you want or you'll scare it.  It needs a litter tray and food plus somewhere that it will feel safe to go and sleep like a large cardboard box turned upside down with a hole for it to enter and a blanket to lie on.  You then have to earn it's trust.  It might take days before your kitten will let you stroke it.

Before you get a kitten, you need to buy food bowls, a litter tray, a scratching post and have somewhere for it to sleep.  That costs money.

You need insurance to cover vet fees.  This is payable every month.

You have to clean it's litter tray out every day and replace the litter as often as needed.  Litter costs money.

You need to feed it and wash it's bowls out every day - food costs money.

You need to get it it's injections - again, more money.

If you aren't at home during the day, the kitten might get bored and start playing with things it shouldn't be playing with.  This will make you think it's naughty when it's not.

Then, when it's older, you need to get it neutured - that costs a bit of money!  You also have to make sure someone is there to look after it and vets are only open for surgery Mon-Fri.  That means that someone will have to take time off work.

Also, once it's neutered, you have to think about whether it will be allowed outside or not.  In the US, it's safer to keep it as a housecat while in the UK, we can let our cats out provided we don't live near a busy road.  Compromises include training the cat to a harness and taking it for walks or building a cat enclosure in your yard or garden.

Will you be paying for the kitten's day to day needs of food, litter, etc plus the larger things like a cat enclosure or vet bills?  Or do you want a kitten but for your dad to pay for it?

My last cat cost me £60 per month for food, litter, insurance and toys to stop her from getting bored.  (approx $120).  And that did not include vet fees.  Can YOU afford that?

Sorry for the long answer but you need to know what you're letting yourself in for!

  2. "Forgetting"? Someone isn't taking the hint =P

  3. I dont think your dad plans on getting you a kitten.

also, getting a kitten comes with alot of responsibilities

taking it to the vet, feeding, cleaning etc etc

  4. adopt one yourself.

    search from the net.

usually there are newborn kittens giving away for free, or just make some small donation amt for them. (:
