Assistance is greatly appreciated, and if you have instructions for caring for it, even better!

My grandma's cat chewed off most of the leaves, sorry.

  1. It is either a ponytail palm, or some sort of variegated dracena--i'm leaning towards the dracena.  Cats are so funny!

  2. It's a baby paml tree. It's sprouting. If I were you I'd cut it a bit so it doesn't overgrow.

  3. it does look a little like a dracaena, but with that swollen trunk it also looks like a pony tail palm. go to your search engine and type in these two plants and see if any pictures of them resemble your plant on better days. It looks as if it has been in that pot for quite some time and could be quite a specimen plant.you may want to take it to a local nursery and get their opinion on care.

  4. It looks like a palm tree.

  5. WOW!  my cat is just as bad no matter how much I scold her.

But I have a cure for kitty munching.

The plant in question is a Dracaena plant of some form.

look it up on line there are many varieties.

      As for the kitty cure;

    You do two things,

    1. Put tiny dobs of Vaseline on the leaves like pock a dots.

Then sprinkle black pepper on the leaves, the Vaseline will catch the pepper and hold it there.   Do not cover the leaves entirely with Vaseline because that will smother the plant.

That is the first half of the cure, no one likes a mouthful of black pepper.

    2. Keep a spray bottle of water handy, every time the cat goes for the plant, say NO! and squirt Kitty with plain water.

As for plant care, To start with, BE very light with the water.

There are not a lot of leaves for transpiration.

No fertilizer for a while for the same reason.

If it were my plant, I would give it a hack just below the existing branches.

In about six months time and with almost no water it will break new buds along the trunk and re-leaf.

If you go with that idea, keep up humidity with the Kitty mist bottle, but very little water into the roots. About one time every other week.

Up to you, clean it or hack it off, but in either case, do not over water it!

  6. I dont know BUT go on Garden's Question Time site and send them the photo, they will be able to help. Its a show on radio 4 BBC.

  7. The flowers look like orchids.

The like lots of water and lots of heat.
