Please help me identify this weed?

I don't have a photo, but, I just cut down "weed" as tall as I am. I saw smaller ones around the garden, so I know that the stalk starts small, but the one I just cut down had a stalk as big around as a paper towel roll. The stalk is a pinkish green and the plant leaves are huge. At the end of the shoots there are little berry like things. None of them were open, just little green, pinkish balls. Not much to go on, I'm sorry. Just hoping someone may know enough about weeds to help. If you can give me a link with suggested photo that would be great. Any ideas would at least give me somewhere to start looking. Thanks

  1. does it have stickers or thorns? when you cut it, did a milky looking goo some out of the stalk? when you squeeze the little greenish balls at the bottom, does a pink flower bust out? was it clear in the center of the stalk? woody of texture or springy like asparagus?

i have a weird weed in my yard too. by the time i noticed it, it was taller than the house and about 7-8 inches around. its definitely wild, but it turns out to be a great shade tree.

weeds can be absolutely anything. if you have a rose growing in your sunflower patch, its a weed. if you're looking for a chemical to kill it ,round-up is very effective, though dangerous for the rest of your yard.

if its for your lawn, you need to know what kind of grass you have and you can buy a weed & feed product. they are supposed to kill everything EXCEPT that specific kind of grass.

for a garden, the unfortunate fact... the best way to rid yourself of weeds is to chop, dig and yank them out. making sure you get the roots out will prevent regrowth and if you keep on top of it, they seem to grow less and less.

you can help prevent the work by putting a layer of newspaper under a layer of mulch. don't ask me why, but it works better than 'weedblock.'

may your flowers bring butterflies. :)
