  1. Hi Loves Animals,

I am a Reference Librarian.  It will take me a few minutes to answer your question.

We had a problem similar to this.   I highly rec commend that you take the cat to the vet to get checked for a bladder infection.  Also, ask the vet about other nonmedical possible causes, such as whether he/she is neutered, or maybe if there has been a recent change (such as moving the litter box, or food) that would make the cat behave in this way.

I recommend that you take the tarp with litter away from the area that you want them to stop marking.  I believe this will only encourage them to mark this later when you do take the tarp away.

The owner at our local pet supply place (Paws 4 Pets) gave us the best advice.  She suggested:

Cat Attract by Dr. Elsey @precious.com to attract the cat to the litter box.  Also use Nature's Miracle to take the scent out of the area to discourage the animal(s) from marking that spot again.

I cannot praise this stuff enough.

    Good Luck!

    K

  2. she might have a urinary tract infection. But she's going to pee there regardless as long as that pee smell is still in the carpet. Your best bet is to get the carpet removed to get the old stale urine smell out. She can smell it, and will just keep going there.

  3. You can try to re-train her to use the box since you seem to have tried everything else and done all the right things.  To do this she must be confined in a roomy cage, preferably somewhere close to where you want her to relieve herself.  Feed her normally, make sure she has water, toys, and a comfortable place to sleep.  Play with her from time to time.  Since she is in a very limited space, she will have no choice but to use the litter box.  I did this once for one of mine and it worked well; I just tried to make sure that she didn't feel isolated and unhappy.

  4. Get her back to the vet to get her checked for a urinary tract infection, that's a very common reason for litter box issues.  Other illnesses can cause litter box problems too.

It could also be stress.  You could get some Feliway and spray that in the area to calm her some and calm the group. But I would take her to the vet first.

Make sure you clean up the pee thoroughly.  If she can still smell it then she'll keep going there.  Tips here: http://www.getridofthings.com/get-rid-of...

I have six too.  Don't worry.  I've seen homes with just two cats that have a lot more problems than my herd.  It is possible that the group is causing her some stress, but I think you'll be able to manage that.  Just be patient with her, I'm sure she's not trying to do anything wrong.

    good luck!

  5. has she been fixed?  I'm currently living with my friend and she has a female cat that has not been spayed and she sprays EVERYWHERE! she ruined our old couch and recliner.  She is now... an outdoor cat for the most part.  I have been told that since she has already started spraying.. getting her fixed won't help the problem.  But you never know... it might.  It could also be because there are more cats than she would like in the house.  When i was born my parents had two neutered male cats from the same litter.  Before I was born they never sprayed but after my sister and I were born they started spraying on everything.  Probably because they were used to not having any competition.  But we eventually had to give them to a friend because the problem got so out of control.

I hope she stops so you dont have to get rid of her!

  6. is your cat fixed?  Some times esp with unfixed male cats they LOVE to mark their territory!!! Females do too.

I have heard of cats that ARE fixed and still have this problem (major territory issues) and when u have more than one cat in a household, doesn't matter if its 2 or 200 cats...they can spray and mark and be very territorial.

Is there a possibility of you letting this cat outside for some of the day? So you can let her mark all she wants all over the place before coming inside?

Also, one thing to watch out for, I had a female cat that was peeing all over, at first I thouht it was territorial but as time went on after a few weeks, I noticed the urine was dark dark yellow and then bloddy... turned out she had bladder stones and just couldn't hold her pee and went anywhere she had the urge, so just watch for that.  first sight of that she needs to get to a vet.

  7. The "feliway" diffuser worked WONDERS for me and I'm sure it will do the same for you. You can buy it online or at some pet stores. It's used to stop many kinds of undesirable behavior, especially what you're experiencing. I swear by it

  8. This is a little hard to read, but it sounds like you have tried alot.  Two things I would suggest.  One: make sure you are using good enzymatic cleaner to get the urine smell out of the carpet.  Cats are creatures of habit and will go back to where they have gone before.  You can use a blacklight to spot any stains that you aren't aware of too.  I recommend Natures Miracle or Get Serious to clean the accidents up with.

You can also try Feliway. It's a pheremone plug in that will help calm the cat and help take away her need to mark (yes, even spayed female cats will mark).

If all else fails, you can speak to your vet about anti-anxiety meds.  I know it sounds over the top, but my cat is doing well on them.

  9. This isn't really urgent. Try closing the cat in a small room (like a bathroom) with a litter box. Give her food, water, and toys too of course. After a day or two she'll probably start using the box. Being free to roam around the whole house is a privilege that cats don't earn until they can be trusted to use the litter box, so don't feel bad about keeping her in a confined area.

  10. Your cat is angry. You changed something, you did something you re not giving your cat enough attention. Also, have you had her checked? Maybe shes got a Urinary Tract infection.
