  1. im so sorry! she will be okay!

  2. I work at a vet clinic in the US.  We see dachshunds with back problems very frequenly.  Overweight can be a VERY large cause of the problems.

I have seen the paralysis of the hind legs a few times.  Does she still have control of her BM's and  urination?  Is she still eating and drinking?

The most common way that a paralysis like that is treated is usually with a steroid if she's able to go without a NSAID for pain.  We usually put them on Prednisone which can help drastically reverse some of the damage.

If she does improve - if she's overweight, consider a diet immediately (they even make prescription diet food which works very well).  If she's not overweight, just work on training her not to jump off of the couches and beds - watch her carefully when you're with her to prevent her from doing moves that might injure herself.  Consider putting her somewhere that she cannot hurt herself while you're gone (like a crate or a special dachshund proof room).

I wish you the best - an x-ray is definately a good idea.  Do that, ask about the possibility of using a steroid, and keep doing what you're doing.

    Best wishes...

  3. You are doing what you can for her and that is about all you can do until you get her to the vet again. Doxies are very prone to back injuries and it is highly likely that she may have hurt it if she was jumping.  For now, just keep her as comfortable as you can and do not let her attempt to move around too much in case she really does have a back injury as her moving can make it worse.

  4. aw. this makes me so sad. i love animals. i dont have advice excapt that i know little dogs are prone to back problems.

p.s. why is this in the horse section?

  5. Awww Hunny!!! I am sorry to read all of this!!

Hey for one thing you have & are going to get her medical care so kudos to you

Has the dog been screened for any diseases that may have partial parallisis as a symptom by any chance.

She could very well have a severely sprained ligament or muscle and that won't show on an x-ray. Sometimes hairline fractures don't show on film.

You will have to forgive my random guessing. Just trying to think of all possible options.

Try to relax the dog will pick up on the stress. Just be the best possible nurse you can to her, love her and do what you can to make her comfy as possible. I know and understand that you are so upset!!!

If there is any new or severe changes always call the advice tech at the vet office. But you know that.

I would call and ask the vet before you try this one. Make and ice bag for her if you know exactly where she got hurt place it there and give her 15 min breaks from the ice. I would not do anything the vet says no to.

Sorry for the massive spelling erros spell check is busted.

I hope things get well very soon.

    GL

  6. These little dogs are prone to back and spinal injuries. Please wait and see what they say at the vet hospital. After the xray, you will know more. For the moment, try to keep Jackie as immobile as possible.

I had a minni dachs, he had some back issues, we had to keep him in a cage for a few weeks on pain killers. I hope it all goes well for you tomorrow.
