please please help me interpret these analects of confucius..

but first, i want to ask what comprises a superior and inferior man??

1."the superior man understands what is right;the inferior man understands what will sell."

2.the superior man loves his soul; the inferior man loves his property. the superior man always remembers how he was punished for his mistakes; the inferior man always remembers what presents he got.

3.the superior man blames himself; the inferior man blames others.

4.you can put a superior man in an important position with large discretionary powers but you can't give him a nice little job; you can give an inferior man a nice little job but you cannot put him in an important position with great discretionary powers.

I am not sure when you ask what comprises a superior man and inferior man.. Here's my guess.. A superior man has proper virtue and is a humanitarian, he is kind, he has good conduct, and has wisdom, while the  inferior man, the other way around.

interpretations:

1. The superior man is has the right understanding. He understands what is right and what is wrong.. The inferior man, on the other hand, only understands what can make him rich...

2. The superior man loves his life more than his things. The inferior man  treasures his things more than his life. The superior man learns from his mistakes. The inferior man only learns how to receive gifts and is not able to learn from his mistakes because he does not remember when he was punished.

3. The superior man knows what mistakes he has done and take the blame while the inferior man passes on the blame to others.

4. The superior man, because he knows what is right can be put in a position where he can decide. The inferior man, knows what will sell. He, if given discretionary powers may make the wrong decisions.

This is only my own interpretation. Not sure about others though.. Hope I helped!!..
