  1. 1. Assimilation is when an immigrant or someone that doesn't know a culture eventually "blends in" and takes up similar characteristics of the dominant, majority culture. An example of this would be immigrants coming into the united states and adopting the values and norms of our culture, such as the language, the fashion, education, etc.

    2. The melting pot theory means that eventually all cultures will diffuse into one "assimilated" culture. Meaning that over time, minority cultures will blend with the majority, but the majority culture will have to be accommodating to the others. People think the u.s. is a melting pot when I like the analogy of a salad (think about it: layers, tomatoes, dressing) it makes more sense than a pot.

    3. Classic pluralistic theory says that groups of people compete with each other for control of something larger. For example, a great one for this would be the battle between the partisan political groups. The democrats and republicans are fighting against each other for something of power.

    4. I'm sorry but I don't understand this. If you are applying the pluralistic theory to our social reality then I would say that our social world follows more of an elitist theory.

    5. Dual realities is when you belong to more than one sub-culture or identification group. For example, I am a college student (so i belong to that id group), but i am also a senior (so I belong to that division in the id group of being a college student). I tried to put this as plainly as possible, but truth is we all have more than one dual reality. We belong to many different things in our society and all of the pieces fit together even if we don't believe it.

    hope this helps

  2. Assimilation is when a minority conforms and adopts the culture of main society.

The melting pot theory deals with immigrants in the early 20th century.  Eastern Europeans, russians, and other light skinned caucasians would melt together to make a perfect american citizen,

Pluralism means that race is not even considered and not a problem.  A society that exists where people are people and are judged not on how they look, but how they act and their character.

Pluralistic reality is that pluralism does not exist.  Minorities, people who in small number than the majority of population, will always have a harder time.
