Please help me pick out a new digital camera?

I currently have an Olympus C-770. My mom gave it to me. It's only 4 megapixels, but it's picture quality is AMAZING! MUCH better than my friend's Emprex that has 10.1! I asked someone at work about thet, and they said that the megapixels don't have anything to do with the picture quality per se, but it's the lense that matters. I will take his word for it. I was wondering if one of you could please recommend a camera to me that has BETTER picture quality than my Olympus, that's pretty compact, and not too expensive.

canon and nikon both do pretty good job.  go to www.dpreview.com for camera review before u spend your money.
