all volcanic eruptions happen at a certain plate boundary.  Earthquakes can happen anywhere but most likely near plate boundaries.  

Most of the land volcanoes occur near subduction zones (stratovolcano is most common volcano type).  That is when the ancient oceanic crust is being pulled under the continental crust.  When this happens the pressure builds up causing magma to be forced out of the volcano.

Another kind of volcano would be the shield volcano which occur on hotspots (tamer type unlike strato volcanoes).  Hot spot and fissure volcnoes occur on divergent fault boundaries such as mid ocean ridges.

Pompeii, Italy- Mt Vesuvius (violent strato-volcano)

LA, CA- San Andraes Fault line (violent earthquakes)

Mt. Ranier, Washington Violent strato-volcano

Mt. Punatubo, Philippines (violent strato-volcano)

Redoubt volcano, Alaska (violent strato-volcano)

Chengdu, China- many fault lines and cracks throughout this area.

Chaiten Volcano, Chile- (violent strato-volcno)

Popocatepetl, Mexico- strato-volcano

Mayon, Phillipeans- Violent strato-volcano

Klyuchevskoy, Russia- strato volcano
