  1. a+6a-9=30

           +9+9

    a+6a=39

    7a=39

    divide each side by 7.

    a= 5.57..

    theres more numbers..round it off.

  2. solve for the variable. Put the As together to get

    7a-9=30 (7a+-9=30)

    Since the 9 is negative, add nine to both sides of the equation. Adding nine to the left side neutralizes the -9, and then add it to the right to balance it out. Then you have

    7a=39 Divide by 7 to get the a by itself and you have

    a=5.5714 (5.6 for simplification)

  3. 6a's plus 1 a is 7a's

    7a - 9 = 30

    add 9 to both sides

    7a - 9 + 9 = 30 + 9

    now tidy up

    7a = 39

    now divide both sides by 7

    a = 39/7

    teacher may need to help you still

  4. You want to separate the variables and the actual numbers.

    a + 6a - 9 = 30

    ^ You can combine a and 6a, and that gives you...<insert answer here>

    #a - 9 = 30

    You need to separate the 9 from the a's. So you add 9 to both sides.

    #a = 30 + 9

    30 + 9 = ...<insert answer here>

    Now you get the A by itself. So if you had 2x = 4, you'd divide by 2 to get the variable alone.

    Kind of got an idea?
