  1. I&#039;m not sure why you have both a less than sign and an equal sign.  Did you want a plus sign instead of the equals?  If so, then the problem can be solved as follows.  Try to get the x term alone on one side.

    2x + 5 &lt; 10x + 20   ...subtract 5 from both sides

    2x + 5 - 5 &lt; 10x + 20 - 5

    2x &lt; 10x + 15   ...subtract 10x from both sides

    2x - 10x &lt; 10x + 15 - 10x

    (2 - 10)x &lt; 15

    -8x &lt; 15   ...divide both sides by 8

    -8x/8 &lt; 15/8

    -x &lt; 15/8   ...multiply both sides by -1 and flip the inequality symbol

    x &gt; -15/8
