a rectangular table is six times as long as its width. If the area is 54ft squared (54^2), find the length and the width of the table.

The length is 18 and the width is 3

x*y=54, y=6x, x(6x)=54, 6x^2=54, x^2=54/6, x^2=9, x=3, 3*6=24

Answer 2

6w=length so               w= width

w times 6w = 54

6w squared = 54

divide by 6

w squared = 9

find the sqaure root of both sides

w=3

width = 3

put that into the problem 6w=length

6(3) = length

18= length

just for proof...

area = length x width

54 = 3 x 18
