Question:

Please help me understand this: THE COMPLEXITY OF INFORMATION?

Not only is the historical complexity of ambient information increasing, but so is the ability to receive and interpret incoming signals. What appears today to be either a noise-wall or a non-interpretable foreign signal, will in five years be considered simplistic/familiar.

Yet there is management of information (including aural/visual/experimentation) in order to produce calculated effects on a passive (consumer) recipient.

1. There is linear arrangement of discrete blocks to reinforce standard ideas of progress from a solid core.

2. If there Is simultaneity of arrangement it is in such a way as to appeal to the standard modes (relax, fun, weird, sympathy, s*x), or to stimulate preconstructed perceptual images. At no stage does the recipient become active, still less change. Only when a choice is forced to form perceptual codes of one's own is any degree of freedom attained.

  1. Jim the Fee, here

Hello LP - I see that you have 4 really "smashing" questions

all in the air at the same time for all of who like your work will take a stab at answering.  This particular question (and the partial answer that you gave in terms of theory) or its varients

have been the meat and potatoes of a select group of Information theory men and women  commencing in the literature of the Internation Communication Association since about 1960.  Their questions and theory building approaches were much more simplistic in those early 20 years (1960-1980). But, then, the shear abundance of communication was just beginning to grow along with computer technology and new devices for storing and sorting

massive amounts of information.  More lavish constructs were borrowed from some of the other sciences;  information

theory (physics, business, library science, Communication study, and on and on and on -- since we were the forerunners

in recognizing that every discrete body of study is of concern to the generalist in Communication.  Your comments in 1. and 2. above indicates that you have the lingo of the information theory specialist  and to a degree (as I imperfectly understand it) are the Mathematics specialists as they speak and theorize about "string theory"

So, in effect, you are implying that we need a broadly anchored theory of Information complexity that will ultimately allow us to understand the messages that are obviously being sent from senitent beings "way, way out there"  and to open communication with those beings well before we meet with them face-to-face.  Those visitors that we have labeled

as aliens in UFO's are probably from within this Galaxay  and

you are concerned with the senitent forms that come from

outer Galaxies in the Milky Way.

I would say that your question is well ahead of the thinking of

the "pack"  but a mathmetician may be the one who gives you the best shot at getting an answering theory for you.

But as for me (some patriot once said) and I paraphrase

the rest -- give me information theroy or wring my neck!

    Cheers,

    Jim the Fee
