my parents got me diagnosed with add and put me on concerta. it is working to help me focus a little more. today was my first day on it and nothing is different. however, i went onto the official cite and saw it can keep you awake and causes insomnia( tiredness) and upper respitory imfections. i have also been clenching my teeth a lot topday and they are sore. i have been reccommended to get tested for respitory allergies already ( an allergen said i have mild respitory allergys and getting diagnosed is a waste of time and money because they do notr interfere with my life. i just usually have a stufy nose. and i go to a gifted center which starts ar 7 so i have to wake up arount 5:30 every morning and go to bed around 10:30. i am always really tired. should i tyaslk to my parents about switching prescriptions? (im 13 years old)

  1. Yes it is a stimulant prescription which has been found to increase alertneses and concentration in people. This is the main reason the drug is so commonly abused on college campus' by people not even diagnosed with ADD.  If you are having trouble then yes you need to tell your  parents about your symptoms. Concerta may not be for you.

  2. give it a few days to see how it really affects you. if you want to try something natural pycnogenol is great for adhd. it can be found in several products, the one my physician recommends for her patients can be found here: http://www.marketamerica.com/jenniferbro...

  3. give it a couple of days. you dont even know if youll get those side effects

  4. talk to your parents and see if they are willing to go the herbal route because there's a product called EFALEX its for the dietary management of Fatty Acid Deficiency.

ADD is often misdiagnosed, talk to your parents and have them do some research with you

  5. I have tried it. I've been on so many meds for add and I'm really not even that bad with it. I was around your age when i started them and I'm now 18 and I don't take anything. be really careful with these meds, like adderall. they can cause major depression when taken for a long time and I had really bad paranoia and anxiety when on these meds. this may be  why you are clenching your teeth, it usually happens with stress. However, give it some time and you may react well to it. just be very careful and dont be afraid to speak up if you have any symptoms like these.

also, insomnia is not being able to sleep, which stimulants usually cause because your mind is constantly going, it gets hard to "turn it off"

  6. ~My 7 year old son takes this medicine.. It is the only one that seemed to work for him.. Also at night if you are having a hard time falling to sleep take Melatonin 1mg (that's also what my son takes to help him sleep) you can buy it at any drug store or grocery store.. but it should help!

    Good Luck

  7. Go on Erowid.org or CVS.com and look it up.
