Fact:  Hernando deSoto was the first European to reach the Blue Ridge Mountains, visiting the Nachoochee Valley and a site near Carters Lake.

Most of the rocks that form the Blue Ridge Mountains are ancient granitic charnockites, metamorphosed volcanic formations, and sedimentary lime stones.
