Please help me with a camcorder?

My husband is deployed and were having our first baby in 6 weeks. I want to buy a camcorder to be able to record all the moments he will miss over the next year. I want to be able to send them to him via DVD so that he can watch them on his laptop. Is there a camcorder that i could download the movies to my computer and burn them to a dvd or should i just buy one that records to dvd? i heard the dvd kind only hold about a half hour of footage..is that true? can someone please recommend a camera to buy. I have a computer with a built in DVD burner. I also dont have too much money to spend on one..i would like to stay under $300 if possiable.

Look for a MiniDV camcorder made by Sony, Canon, JVC or Panasonic.  You'll need to budget about $20 for a firewire card and probably a few more for the cable to connect it to your PC.  You can edit the video with Windows Movie Maker and burn DVDs with DVD Flick (it's free).  You'll be able to get between 1 and 2 hours of reasonable quality video on a DVD.  The original tapes can be kept for years as an archive.

sometimes dvd recorded on dvd camcorder seem to have problem in compatibility which mean when you send it to your hubby it might not be able to playback on his end.

you can buy mini dvd and then transfer to your computer and burn on dvd as you said.that might be the best on compatibility.

you can get one like that for under $200.good luck.
