i feel pretty dumb for asking this but i cant find the radius. Nate ate a slice from a standard 8-equal-sized-slice pizza pie. The length of the edge of the crust of his slice was 4. What was the area of the pie after he ate the slice?

  1. size of edge for one=4

    for eight=8*4=32

    this is equal to length of circumferrence=2*pi*r=32

    or 2*3.14*r=32

    or r=32/6.28=5.095

    area of total pizza=pi*r^2

    or A= 3.14* 5.095^2=81.51

    One eights  area  of pizza=81.51/8= 10.18

    area left 81.51-10.18= 71.32

    unit if cm then answer is 71.32 sqcm

  2. if the crust is 4in the circumference would be 8 x 4, 32.

    then you can find the diameter by dividing 32 by pi. which is about 10.19

    divide by 2 to find the radius.    5.1

    usue the area formula to find the area (Pi r^2)

    81.67 in^2 is the area

  3. 71.1 is the correct answer

  4. If Nate's slice had an arc-length of 4, then the whole pie had a circumference of 32---any questions?

    C = 2(Pi)r

    solving for r gives:  r = 16/(Pi)

    Area of a Pizza is given by:  A = (Pi)r^2

    so, Area of whole Pizza is:  A = (Pi)(256)/(Pi^2)

    or,

    A = 256/(Pi) sq cheese units  (could be pepperoni units, too!)

    Nate ate one-eighth of the pie, so seven-eighths remain

    (7/8)(256/Pi) = 224/Pi sq. pepperonis

    If you insist on using an approximation for Pi (I wouldn't), the answer is

    A = (approx.) 71.30 sq pepperonis

    QED

  5. MMm, I think that the answer depends on the ingredients of the pizza, because If is a pepperoni pizza you have a lot of radius to calculate, and is worst if is a Hawaiian Pizza because that have pine apple that is big, and if the pine apple have no center, then you have two circles instead of one, and If you think that is enough, think now that the pine apple is in little sweetly and tasty bites. Think also in the cheese.

    Any way. The diameter of a circle is emm is... ?Do you know how to put greek letters here¿. well is pi*radius, then the radius of a circle is diameter/pi latter the area is pi*radius^2

    diameter = pi * radius

    radius = diameter / pi

    radius = 4(8) / pi

    radius = 32 /pi

    radius = 10.18589254

    area = pi*radius^2

    area = 3.1416* (10.18^2)

    area = 325.5715478

    now, he ate one of 8 slices, then

    area2= area1(7/8)

  6. Multiply 4 by 8 to get the circumference. Then divide by pi to get the diameter. Divide by 2 to get the radius. Then square the radius and multiply by pi to get the area of the pie. Then divide that by eight to get the area of each slice. Then subtract the area of one slice from the area of the whole pie to get the answer.

  7. so there were 8 slices

    the circumference of 1 slice was 4 from teh crust.

    so the total circumference is 4*8 = 32

    so circumference = 2 * pi*r

    32 =  2 * pi*r

    so r = 32/2*pi = 16/pi

    area = pi * r*r

    = pi * (16/pi) ( 16/pi)

    = 256 / pi

    but he ate 1 slice

    so total area was 256/pi

    1 slice  area = 256/8pi = 32/pi

    so what was remaining is= 256/pi  - 32/pi

    = 224/pi

  8. work it out from the circumference which is 8 x 4
