Question:

Please help me with my horse equipment!?

My mother worked in the Wilson company and they moved out of their location and they left behind some kind of horse equipment. It is in a very nice glass casing and cannot be opened without ripping it. It looks like what the horse wear around their bellies to distinguish them. It has a large number 5 and it looks like it belonged to a legend horse or something like that because of the nice casing. I would very much like to know just what it is, and how much it's worth and if there was ever a "lucky number 5" or something like that. IF you need a picture of what it sort of looks like you can follow this link. http://images01.trafficz.com/cache/h3w4/500_1187200704_8260.jpg

Thanks for your help!

  1. Why is horse racing a sport?

    It's probably worth a lot.

  2. Are you talking about a saddle blanket?  In that picture you linked to, the red thing under the saddle with the number 9 on it?

If so, it could have belonged to a famous racehorse.  If your horse wins a major race, you (the owner) keep the saddle cloth.  If it was under glass, the horse and the race were probably pretty special.  Unfortunately, every horse in every race wears a saddle cloth.  The number represents which post position the horse breaks from.  Millions of horses wear the number 5 saddle cloth every year.  Therefore, without any further information or distinguishing marks on this saddlecloth, it's impossible to tell which horse it belonged to or which race it was used in.

In major stakes races the name of the horse will sometimes be stitched under the number on the saddle cloth and sometimes the name of the race is stitched on the cloth as well.

If there are no distinguishing markings, perhaps you can contact the company that left it behind to see if they knew anything more about it.  It could be valuable or it could not be.

  3. it could be a brest plate often racehorses wear them so the saddle doesnt slip back the champion horse lonhro wore one
