Please help me with my internet access?

My friend is trying to connect her laptop to my wireless router but it needs a password but when we try to connect, it doesn't even ask for a password! The network shows up on the network list but when we try to connect, it just doesn't ask for a password and it doesn't connect. Please help! She has Windows XP with a Dell XPS. Thank you very much! :-)

Are you sure her computer is trying to connect to your signal, mot to someone else's signal?

Can her computer connect to any other secured network?

First you have to tell us what kind of router you use.

Because In order to connect your laptop wirelessly. you need to see the password in your router setup.

To do this...

If you guys use netgear try typing 192.168.1.1

Unto your internet explorer or firefox search box.

When you press enter it'll tell you to enter a name and password.

Default name will be Admin

and default password is 1234 or password or just press enter without typing any password.

On a router setting

click wireless setup.

Retype the password to your desire and click confirm.

I recommend that you use WEP.

It'll require you to make a 10 numbered password.

After doing all this try connecting your friends laptop to pc. Using the password you have created

on your own laptop, see if you can change your router's settings. the router should have an address that you type in internet explorer to access its settings

Your friend may not be connecting to your network.  have her click on the network icon at the very bottom of the windows screen that looks like two overlapping computer screens, to see which or who's network she is connecting to.  If she is not connecting to your network, have her disconnect and reconnect to your network.
