What is the difference between yellow and grey fixed traffic cameras? can a yellow camera be a camera for both speeding and waiting to get people jumping red lights?

  1. I'm afraid that since April 2007 traffic cameras no longer have to be painted yellow; this followed a change in the law whereby local traffic partnerships no longer keep the funds raised. There are now "recommendations" that they "should" be painted in bright colours, but not all areas follow these.

    Thus, cameras are now yellow, yellow with red stripes, grey, blue, whatever the local areas wants.

    If the camera is pointed at the area within the traffic lights, it's almost certainly operating as a red light camera.


  2. Please also note that some of the grey units are actually traffic counters, not cameras - these also come in green or blue too;
