steel rods are used in concreate buildings to help streagthn the concreate. fortinatly steel and concreate exspamd the same amount when heated describe what might happen if they diden't???

if the steel expanded more than the concrete it would cause the concrete to crack and fail. concrete has an incredibly high compression strength but relatively low strength when being pulled or pushed apart. the steel would crack it no problem.
