Hello,

My name is Lawrence,I'm 15 and I have a Social Phobia issue.

I was home schooled last year because of it and now it's gotten worse.

When I go in public places with a lot of people I get really nervous. I start to sweat,I get really hot, and I start to stare at the floor. I panic worse especially around teens or young people and that's not good because I am about to start high school August 25th! I was tease a lot in school.4th grade through 8th grade. I thought about suicide. When I tell my dad about my problem he just laughs. When I tell my mom she suggest I should take therapy. Can someone please tell me where I should go to get treatment? I think I want medicine or pills more than therapy. Can anyone help me?!

  1. Pills aren't going to help you.

  2. You should talk to your parents about seeing a doctor to get pills.  If you are too embarrassed check out this video, it can give you some helpful info in the privacy of your own home.  Good luck at school buddy, you'll do fine.

  3. just dont give a **** what people think. why should you?

  4. ask your mom if she'll help you into a place for treatment. it may also help if you see your guidance counselor to talk about these things. if you don't like your assigned gc, see another.

  6. First of all, Lawrence, keep telling yourself you are a precious person that is worth a whole lot.  Don't let others get to you or make you feel bad.  You should see a therapist, maybe your mom can help.  It is not going to be easy--I have had this problem too and I was teased too.  But remember that you will not be in school forever, and out in the real world, after you graduate, no one is going to treat you like that.  Kids aren't as mean in high school, either, as they are in middle school.  A doctor might be able to prescribe something.  Slowly, you need to gain more self-confidence, and this will happen.  A therapist or psychologist can't prescribe medicine, so you would want to go to a regular doctor or a psychiatrist.  I know it seems like bad advice, but I know from experience that the more that you get out of the house, the less you will be nervous.  The more you stay in, the worse your phobia will get.  Try also to get a few friends and do some fun things.  Be a good listener and smile alot when you start school.  People are attracted to happy people.  Try to fake acting confident.  People will treat you the way you look like you want to be treated.  For some reason, if you look like you don't like yourself, other people won't like you.  Try to think positive thoughts--this is going to be a great school year, you are going to be very calm and meet people, and be happy.  Right now, you thoughts are thinking bad things, negative things, and telling you that you aren't worth anything.  Don't believe it.  As you get older in life, you will realize that all the people you looked up to or envied have some serious problems!  I look around me now that I'm older and think I'm about the only normal person out there!  Now, instead of thinking "They won't want to be my friend---they are too good for me,"  I think "I wonder what problems this person has--I don't know if they are good enough to be my friend."  Like I said, it's unfortunately a slow process.  Lawrence, going to an Assembly of God church might help too, or spirit filled.  They have youth groups where you could meet some friends and gain some confidence, and you will get stronger, too, knowiing these people are going to be nice, and also that God loves you.  No one is mean at church.  It would be a great start.  Remember, you have to make some goals and some plans--all this will not happen by itself if you don't try.  Good luck.  I know what you are going through, and believe it or not, so do many, many other kids your age.
