Last year (seventh grade) was my first year playing any sport (basketball) and i made the team (post; i'm 5'10'') but now i'm thinking about trying out for the school's volleyball team. we have three squads; A B and C, so i'm not trying to be the best of the best, but i do have to have the fundamentals down by the 26th. so i was wondering..

what are some techniques i could practice to prepare for tryouts? they're on the 26th, and the 29th is when they post who made it. so yeah, i need to get this down in two weeks. i don't have a volleyball net and nothing close to it around my area, but i'm borrowing my friend's volleyball for a little while. i also need to lose twenty pounds and get in shape before then, but i plan on going on a 4-10 day fast (water and green tea-the bags, not that preserved, sugary stuff) then eating fruits and vegetables three days after that. school starts on the twentyfifth and i'll still be eating light stuff, and on the twentysixth is when i'll start eating more (greener salads, fruits, broth, etc) i know what to do, i've been on a two day fast before. SO DON'T LECTURE ME cause that's not what this is about. but if you have any ideas on what to eat after my fast for tryouts that are light (no bread, milk, etc.; liquids would be nice, and i don't know about power bars?) tell me.

Once again, my question is;

What are some fundamentals/basics I can should be learning for tryouts that expect us to already know them?

And, what are some good light foods to eat pre-practice (6:45 am- about 9:00 am)

Thanks :)

  1. One thing you can do to help with jumping in volleyball is to squat down and then jump up as high and as fast as you can....it kills your thighs if you do too many too fast so start out slow. And before you do it, stretch out your legs a lot. Another thing you can do is jump up and hit the top of an open doorway, it's a good exercise is you need to lose weight and it also helps with jumping in volleyball.

    Don't eat a big meal before practice(or tryouts) or game. You'll get cramps when you play, keep it small and eat slowly...

    your welcome :)

  2. work on foot work. if you have a latter, place it on the floor and go up and down without hitting the rims of it. I personally believe that eating a granola bar is okay. Yea it's a little sweet, but it also is packed with a lot of nuts and fairly healthy.
