  1. 1.) 4(x+2)+2x=x-42

       4x+8+2x=x-42

        6x-x=-42-8

         5x=-50

           x=-10

    2.) 2x+4+x=18-x+42

         3x+x=18+42-4

          4x=56

       x=14

    3.) 6(x+2)+4+2

      6x+12+8=0

    6x=-20

    x=-10/3

    4.) x+6+x=44

    2x=44-6

    2x=38

    x=19

    5.) -x+6=2

    -x=2-6

    -x=-4

    x=4

  2. When you have math problems, you have to multiply numbers in parenthesis and add similar numbers. For example,

    a)4(x+2) + 2x = x-42.

    1) Take 4 * x and 4 * 2. Your equation looks should look like this:

         4x + 8 + 2x = x - 42.

    2.) Now add (or subtract) similar numbers one side of the equal sign at a time. Cover one side of the equal side to help you concentrate on that side. In the above equation you would add 4x + 2x and get 6x. There is nothing similar right of the equal sign. Now your equation should look like this: 6x + 8 = x - 42.

    3.) Now we have to move the numbers. Keep 6x to the left of the equation and take the 8 over to the other side. However, you have to change +8  to -8 because you are switching sides of the equal sign. Now the equation will look like this: 6x = x - 42 - 8.

    4.) Now we have similarity on the left of the equation (42 and 8). We need to add the two negatives. Your answer would be -50. The equation should look like this: 6x = x - 50

    5.) Now the variable on the left of the equal sign needs to go to the right. Again, you will change the sign. The equation will look like this: 6x + (-x) = -50 or 6x - x = -50. (The same either way)

    6.) When a variable is by itself, you need to understand that it will be 1(then a variable). In this case, -x is actually -1x. Place the 1 in front of the x to help you do the next math part: 6x + (-1x) = -50.

    7.) Since 6x and 1x are the same, we need to subtract them. Therefore, 6x - 1x = 5x. Now the equation looks like this: 5x = -50.

    8.) You still need to find out what x is. To do that, you have to divide. You are going to take 5 (from 5x) and divide it into -50. Now, x = -50/5.

    9.) Now solve x. -50/5 = -10

    Now check your answer on both sides of the equation: Put 10 in for x:

    1.) 4( (-10) + 2) + 2(-10) = (-10) - 42

    2.) 4(-8) + 2(-10) = (-10) - 42

    3.) -32 + (-20) = (-10) - 42

    4.) -52 = (-10) - 42

    5.) -52 = -52

    I hope that helps. If you need more help, let me know in your question.

  3. 1.)

    4(x+2)+2x = x - 42

    4x + 8 + 2x = x - 42

    6x + 8 = x - 42

    5x = -50

    x = -10

    2.)

    2x + 4 + x = 18 - x + 42

    3x = 60 - x

    4x = 60

    x = 15

    3.) No equals sign to this one?

    6(x+2) + 4 + 2

    6x+12 + 4 + 2

    6x + 18

    4.)

    x + 6 + x = 44

    2x = 38

    x = 19

    5.)

    -x + 6 = 2

    -x = -4

    x = 4

    I really hope you start doing your own homework next time. Because if you don't get this, you're going to have real trouble in algebra and it's just not worth it.

    All I did in these problems were distribute and combine like-terms.

    Please get a tutor next time if you really need the help. >_>
