the total orange I have is x. then I gave you half the amount plus 1/2 an orange. next I gave you half the remain plus 1/2 an orange. after that, i gave you another half the remain plus 1/2 an orange. finally i gave you half the remain plus 1/2 an orange, then i have nothing in mu hand. find how many orange do i have?

15/2+.5 =8

7r/2+.5 =4

3r/2+.5=2

1r/2+.5=1

8+4+2+1 =15

For these problems, you work backwards...  Starting with finally, I have you half the remaining orange plus half an orange.  

If you gave me half the remaining, plus half and orange and got nothing, that's be 1 orange (half remaining = half an orange +half an orange)

The previous one, is half the remaining, plus half, so we take 1 orange, add a half an orange, and then double it for 3 oranges.

The Next...  half the remain plus half an orange, so we add half an orange, 3.5 and then double it to 7...

Then one more... you gave me half the remain, plus half, so 7+half is 7.5 and double it for 15 oranges.
