my teacher told it to us, and won't say the answer.

three people went to a hotel and paid for a room. they spent $30, ($10 for each person). later the hotel owner noticed that she overcharged the guests by $5 and sent the bell boy to return it. since there were $5 and only three guests they ech took back $1 and gave the remaing $2 to the bellboy as a tip.

What happened to the missing dollar?

i figured they each paid $9 cause they each got one back.

soo.

$9x3=27 + $2(bellboy's tip)= $29

  1. its a trick... they paid $9.33

  2. its a trick      5 dollars back  1 to ecah of the 3 guys= 3 dollars

    and 2 for the bellboy

  3. Wrong way to figure, she sent back 5 so they paid 25 for the room, 1 each for them and 2 for the bell hop.

  4. in a hotel, you can usally use any kind of currency to pay the bill, so there are so many kinds of dollars, e.g. American dollars, Australian dollars, ect. so now you need the exchange rate to calculate (if it is or not) a missing dollar.

  5. there is no missing dollar. it's a trick.

30 total.3 people each took a dollar. and gave the bell boy a tip. that's five dollars.

    there is no missing dollar.

  6. Let us know, okay?

  7. $5 cant be overcharged to 3 people, its a number riddle without an answer, tell your teacher you dont appreciate lies from an authority figure

  8. Nothing happened to the dollar. All the money is still there. Yes, they each ended up paying $9 each for a total of $27. Plus the $3 they got back is a total of $30-it's all there. They were supposed to pay $25 but they paid $27, which makes sense because the bellhop kept $2.

    Charges: $25 for the room + $2 for the bellhop=$27 $30 initial charge - $3 refund = $27 Each paid $9 and $9 x 3 = $27

The trick is in the statement, "The three men had now paid $9 each, or a total of $27. This plus the $2 the bellhop kept for himself makes a total of $29."

The $27 is the total payment and $2 is a cost, not a payment! It just happens to add up to $29 giving the illusion of a missing dollar.

  9. there is no missing dollar

if 3 ppl take a dollar that equals $3 + the 2 dollar tip 4 the bell boy

    3+2=$5

  10. the answer is that there is no missing dollar.

    3 ppl paid 10 buks for a room...3x10=30

    overcharged 5 buks....30-5=25

bell boy gave each back 1 dollar and kept $2....25+1+1+1+2=30...

it was a trick question...no missing dollar..

    hope this was understandable...:-)
