I would be very grateful for any help or suggestions.

We are in a brand spanking new office, all shiny windows vista from the box. The IT hardware was set up for us and we have wireless and everything. The problem is that we can't get our computers to network and share files.

It 'should' be working but we can not view files saved on the other computer.

I have checked and we are on the same network. File sharing is on.

Please could you help out.

  2. I see you are getting all sorts of help here maybe I can give you a relevant answer.

Here is the Networking How to for Vista, it is different.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libra...

The ONE thing you really need to do, if you are behind a router is set the network to PRIVATE - The default in Vista seems to always set this to PUBLIC! Not good for local networks at all!

"Private The computer is connected to a network that has some level of protection from the Internet and contains known or trusted computers. Examples of private network types are home networks or small office networks that are located behind an Internet gateway device that provides firewalling against incoming traffic from the Internet." (from the article above)

To view the current network location type, do the following, click Start, right-click Network, and then click Properties.  If your network shows PUBLIC it will not work!

Also be sure you enable local networking in your firewalls!

  3. get rid of the vista computer
