Hi, I'm a beginner, as in I just started knitting a few days ago but I'm pretty good at the basic knitting stitch.. I was wondering if there's any project I can do, you know, something that's for beginners like me.. Oh yeah, I only have size 7 needles and purple yarn and black yarn.. Please help!

Also, please don't give me a list of knitting projects on lionbrand or something like that because the only reason I'm asking this question is because I'm sick of looking through those lists for something I can do with the needles I have.

I appreciate your help!

  1. You can always do your own thing without a pattern just for practice.  Here is an idea... start a scarf... cast on some number of stitches... depending if you want a wide or narrow scarf and just practice back and forth (knit and purl) and practice changing colors every so often... and make a striped scarf...

Just to let you know if you use a different size needle or yarn than a pattern calls for it will just turn out bigger or smaller... if you use a scarf pattern it doesn't matter if it is bigger or smaller...just don't try a fitted (sweater or jacket) pattern with the wrong size or it won't fit.

  2. You could always make a scarf...cast on about 50 stitches, and knit back and forth till you are almost out of yarn in that skein of yarn, then bind off loosely.

  3. Go back to Lionbrand and choose a toy pattern. It won't matter what size needles you have. You don't say how much yarn you have, so you might run out, but you could always get a knitting relative to give you more. Knitters always have leftover yarn.

  4. you should do a little square dishcloth of whatever you like i did this one because i liked music you can either switch to different color or purl the black squares http://kodymayknits.blogspot.com/2007/11...

  5. scarf:

cast on 15 or so sts and knit until it's long enough

    coin purse:

Cast on 12 sts and knit until it's about 10 inches.

fold it up about 4 inches and sew the sides

Team flag (only if you like a team with purple and black-Go Ravens!!!)

cast on 20 sts knit until it's about 12 inches long

    attach to a chopstick/skewer

  6. I think the best project for beginners is a nice garter row scarf. You cast on as many stitches as you want, depending on how wide you want your scarf. I'm not sure if you mean American size 7 or 7mm needles, or how wide you like your scarves, so I can't tell you how many stitches. That is up to you. You can just cast on and knit a few rows and see if it's wide enough. It's a scarf, so it really is to your liking and doesn't need to be exact.

Then just knit every row and keep knitting until it is long enough to please you. You can make "stripes" with your black and purple yarn simply by breaking off and joining the new color at the end of a row.

Remember, knitting is fun! Sometimes at first it can be frustring, but if you take it easy and enjoy yourself, you will be surprised at how fast you get good at it. I hope you learn and grow and come to love knitting as well as I do.

Also, for plenty of knitting forums, help and other such things, go to:

    www.ravelry.com

It's the best knitting resource site there is. You have to wait for a day or two for them to approve your membership, but it's well worth it!

    Happy knitting!
